KIJ was established in Kobuchisawa, Yamanashi as the headquarters in Japan of Kushi Institute International, which Michio Kushi presided over in U.S.A.
At KIJ, we introduce a program from KI in America, and develop a curriculum based on an education system of Kushi Macrobiotics, which Michio Kushi supervises. We try for the right spread of Kushi Macrobiotics and the training of its leader, through Macrobiotic Conference to learn on the stage of rich nature, Mt. Yatsugatake, through the study and the documents of Michio Kushi in the library, and through the menu guidance of the cafe, which can experience Kushi Macrobiotics.
The principal reason that KIJ had been established in Kobuchisawa is because of its pristine natural environment of clean air, pure water and natural surroundings. In this respect, Kobuchisawa is very similar to the environment of Becket, Massachusetts, where the Kushi Institute in the U.S.A. is located. As a symbol of peace and friendship, 330 cherry trees were donated to the town of Kobuchisawa by Michio Kushi.
